The Beach

Emma's first time at the beach was this past Sunday. We went during the hottest part of the day but there was a nice breeze on Tybee. I plopped her down in the sand and she enjoyed playing in the sand with her hands and feet. Greg and I then took her down to the water ...

Emma: Week 23

Highlights:
* Size 2 diapers. Sizes 3, 3 - 6 and 6 month clothes.
* Weighs 13lbs 12 oz.
* Rolling from back to tummy multiple times throughout the day. Emma also rolls over in the crib, which wakes her up. One time this week, we woke up to Emma giggling in the crib as she kept rolling over and playing. Luckily, it was about 7am.
* Introduced sweet potatoes for dinner this week. She's eating about 2 oz at dinner. For breakfast, Emma eats about 3 oz of rice cereal or oatmeal. Emma's introduction to solids is going great!
* Eating tends to be messy and sometimes Emma's a bit fussy, due to being hungry or sleepy.
* Still needs support to sit up but she is SO close!
* Teething is bothering her some days but teething rings and Sophie are helping.
* Visited Savannah this past weekend and Emma did great, except for sleeping in the pack-n-play. Emma was passed from one person to the next, without complaining.
* Emma also had her first trip to the beach. I'll have a separate posting with pictures.

Emma: Week 22

Highlights:
* Size 2 diapers. Size 3, 3 - 6 and 6 month clothes.
* Weighs 13lbs 8 oz. Measures about 25.5 inches long.
* Rolls over, from back to tummy, on daily basis. Emma can roll over from tummy to back but doesn't do this as often.
* Eating rice cereal at dinner time. I measure the breast milk and then add the cereal, so Emma's eating about 1 oz of cereal. She seems to enjoy it but doesn't do well if she's cranky (tired or really hungry). Greg and I noticed that she likes the cereal fairly thick.
* Greg fixed the A/C unit this week. The piece was being mailed to us and when it arrived, there was a large dent in the capacitor. Emma and I made a trip to Athens to exchange.
* Spitting up a little more than normal; I'm guessing it's due to the extra drool from teething. It doesn't phase her though.
* Loves to play on the iPad during tummy time.
* Emma now tosses toys and pacifier out of the car seat. We have seen her doing this in the crib already.
* Went to Kiley's birthday party, which was located on a farm. Greg and I held Emma the entire time. She enjoys being outside and looking around at everyone/everything!
* We had family pictures done on North Campus. Emma didn't cooperate that well so we'll see how they turn out.

5 Months Old

Rice Cereal

Emma had her first taste of rice cereal on July 6th. The directions said to make it very thin, so we did. It might have been a little too thin! She doesn't understand the spoon part just yet, and was slurping down the cereal. Emma also wanted to hold the spoon herself. She had a scared look on her face at first but then decided that it wasn't too bad.

Emma's second taste of cereal was the next day. We made the cereal thicker and she enjoyed it a lot more. In fact, Emma was reaching for the spoon with her mouth wide open. The second attempt went a lot smoother. I think that we will continue to feed her the plain cereal for a week or so before attempting anything else. She needs to get used to the spoon and learn how to eat with a spoon. Emma was using her tongue a lot more than necessary so this is a learning lesson for all three of us!

It's Independence Day!

Emma had two outfits for this day! A t-shirt and jeans skirt outfit and a sailboat bubble. So cute! Here are some photos from that day; excuse Ms. Emma's attitude in the t-shirt; her smirk cracks me up!

We were stuck indoors all day while Greg & his Dad worked outside, with the cherry tree, so no action photos.

Emma: Week 21

Highlights:
* size 2 diapers. Size 3, 3-6, and 6 month clothes.
* no weight the check this week.
* little one is almost sitting up on her own. Emma likes to dive forward but she can catch herself, most of the time.
* big news: Emma is starting to eat cereal. She was feeding every 1.5 hours so we decided it might be about time. We wanted to wait until she was six months but Emma wanted to start a little earlier.
* thunderstorm knocked down one of our cherry trees so July 4th was spent doing yard work! Greg wanted to act like George Washington by cutting the cherry tree into smaller pieces.
* likes to look at books; we need to find more books that Emma can't destroy.
* rolled over a few times this week, mostly back to tummy.
* our a/c units broke two different times this week, it can hardly keep up with the heat! We had the repairman visit last weekend for the upstairs unit, then the downstairs unit decided to break this weekend. Greg's going to try and repair it himself.
* iPad was purchased this week. We have found one app for Emma that she really enjoys. It's a slideshow of pictures that teaches her the names and sounds of each picture. We can lock the slideshow so that she can touch the screen without interrupting the pictures. I need to look for more apps for Emma. Any suggestions?

**Look for separate posts for July 4th and 1st attempt at cereal.**
